Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using the Finlighten application ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Finlighten ("we", "us", or "our").
2. Description of Service
Finlighten is a personal financial management application that helps users understand their finances by:
- Connecting to bank accounts and financial institutions via Plaid
- Aggregating and displaying transaction history and account balances
- Providing financial insights, spending analysis, and literacy tools
- Displaying credit card terms, APR, and interest information
- Identifying recurring subscriptions and spending patterns
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use Finlighten. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that:
- You are at least 18 years of age
- You are a resident of the United States
- You have the legal authority to connect the financial accounts you link to Finlighten
- All information you provide is accurate and complete
4. Account Registration and Security
To use Finlighten, you must create an account. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
- Ensuring your contact information remains accurate and up to date
We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe have been compromised.
5. Financial Account Connection and Consent
Finlighten connects to your financial institutions through Plaid, a secure third-party financial data provider. By connecting a financial account, you:
- Explicitly authorize Finlighten and Plaid to access your financial account data
- Consent to the collection of your transaction history, account balances, and credit card details
- Consent to the storage of your financial data in our secure cloud infrastructure
- Consent to the processing of your data to generate financial insights
- Agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy
You may disconnect any financial account at any time through the application. Disconnecting an account will revoke Finlighten's access to that institution.
6. Data Collection and Privacy
Your use of Finlighten is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
By using the Service, you consent to:
- Collection of personal information including name, email, and date of birth
- Collection and storage of financial transaction data from connected accounts
- Processing of your financial data to generate insights and analytics
- Storage of your data on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure
7. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Use the Service to connect accounts you do not own or are not authorized to access
- Transmit any malicious code, viruses, or harmful data
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service
- Impersonate any person or entity
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure
- Financial data displayed is always accurate, complete, or current
- Any financial insights or analysis constitute professional financial advice
Financial data is sourced from your financial institutions via Plaid and may be subject to delays or inaccuracies beyond our control.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FINLIGHTEN SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
Our total liability to you for any claims arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Account Termination and Data Deletion
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected].
Upon account deletion:
- All Plaid bank connections are immediately revoked
- All personal and financial data is permanently deleted within 30 days
- You will receive email confirmation when deletion is complete
We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice.
11. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.
